Respect Clubs spearheaded the 1st Palimbang Children’s Congress held last October 15, 2015 at Palimbang Municipal Gymnasium in celebration of the Children’s Month with the theme: “Komunidad at Pamahalaan, Magkaisa; Pang-aabuso sa Bata, Wakasan Na!” (Community and Government Unite; End Child Abuse!) The activity, initiated by the local government unit of Palimbang with support from PASALI, aims to uphold children’s rights and welfare and provide venue wherein children can freely express their thoughts and showcase their talents. Highlights of the activity include musical and theatrical presentations of the organized Respect Club student-members through “Puppet Show on Children’s Rights” based on the animated characters “Dora” and “Boots.” The creative visual show not only entertained the crowd by the impressive performance of children, but also served as an awareness-raising on children’s rights and welfare. On the other hand, an eye-opener and heart-breaking theatrical presentation surfacing the issues on bullying at school, discrimination and child labor faced by children in Palimbang, captured the attention of the crowd. Respect Clubs, organized in 17 beneficiary schools of PASALI’s Respect Education Program, were able to gather around 600 pre-school children and about 400 elementary school children coming from different schools in Palimbang for the said event. The children were accompanied by Day Care Workers, teacher-advisers and parents to ensure proper guidance and safety of the children.
