A safe, adequate water supply within easy-reach is still a dream for many people living in rural areas in the Philippines.

With the advent of the best version of hydraulic ram pump, developed by Appropriate Indigenous Development Foundation, Incorporated (AIDFI) and further applied by Appropriate Technology  and Innovative Development (ATINDev) Program of Pasali, hundreds of villages in the mountainous parts of the Philippines, are now enjoying supply of adequate water at level 2 system. Further, the cost of delivering water is very cheap, as hydraulic ram pumps neither use electricity nor fuel and its cost of  maintenance is much lower.

An example of this type of water installations are in the villages of Lawan-Lawan, Las Nieves, Agusan del Norte, where water is now reaching the villagers’ homes. According to the Higaonon village chieftain, it was only in their dreams to have a water supply like this. The set up used eight(8) hydraulic pumps delivering a total of 200,000 liters a day, which is more than enough for the 6 villages with more than 550  households.

With the huge success of Lawan Lawan hydraulic ram pump water system, the provincial government of Agusan del Norte, especially through the leadership of Governor Angelica  Amante, commissioned Pasali to conduct a provincial wide feasibility study for possibilities of installing water systems though hydraulic ram pump.
It is eyed that the villages of Dorian, Simbalan and Catiklan, and in a city of Cabadbaran,  inhabited with indigenous people will have water through hydraulic ram pumps before the end of 2016.

To date, Pasali alone had constructed more than a hundred  hydraulic ram pump  water systems all over Philippines and benefiting more than 10,000 households. Around two-thirds of these installations were funded by DILG and the rest by Coca Cola Philippines.
