What we stand for

Our work is focused on three themes: poverty alleviation, conflict transformation and environmental sustainability.

We contribute to poverty alleviation by enabling communities to achieve food security, access to SMART technology, and have access to existing facilities for education and health. If no facilities exist in particular areas, we create direct services while lobbying for the communities to receive structural access. We also develop and implement schemes that contribute towards the economic sustainability of communities.

Poverty Alleviation
Our founding concept is entitled “From Brain Drain to Brain Gain” which means to bring home not only the hard-earned savings but also technologies and skills learned abroad and invest it in service of local development.

Food Security
We conduct technology transfer of sustainable rice production through System of Rice Intensification (SRI) to farmers. The following interventions are aimed specifically at achieving food security:Farm

Support Scheme- System of Rice Intensification (FSS- SRI)
Rice Contract farming
Sustainable Urban Gardening (SuGa)
Agro-forestry

SMART technology
At the core of the 'brain gain concept' lies the transfer of technology and mechanical skills. PASALI designs, fabricates, and installs tools that allow remote rural communities to have access to clean water, increase farm production, and energy.

Economic sustainability
For us, being sustainable means having permanent access to basic facilities and the ability to generate own income for many years to come. Sustainable interventions are ones that enable people to support themselves even after an intervention. In the past five years, PASALI has contributed to the generation of livelihoods for fisher folk, farmer households, and indigenous people groups. Now,
Peace and Prosperity
We envision to contribute towards building self- reliant communities in the Philippines. For us, a self reliant community is peaceful, healthy, environmentally concious and entrepreneurial.

Conflict Transformation

Conflict resolution
In a former conflict ridden area of Palimbang, PASALI contributes to lasting peace by addressing the issues on discrimination, land ownership, debt, lack of economic means (money, job)- all root causes of conflict.

Recently, we facilitated the establishment of 11 cooperatives comprised of Tri people in 11 villages( upland and lowland areas) in Palimbang.

Environmental Sustainability: Climate change mitigation
In Palimbang, farmers are taught a new system of planting rice called SRI that use less water, seeds, and without depending on extremely expensive chemical fertilizer, pesticides and herbicides. Unlike the conventional way of farming, SRI mitigates climate change because rice paddies are not flooded constantly; thus, producing less methane which contributes to global warming.
